Together with the DVFA, Inc., and the Insurance Coverage Office of Delaware, VFIS Mid-Atlantic, along with the Glatfelter Specialty Benefits Division, helped to create Senate Bill 160, which was signed in August of 2020 allowing the Insurance Coverage Office to purchase an insurance policy to cover cancer for active Volunteer Firefighters, Paid Firefighters, Fire Marshals, Fire Instructors, Fire Police, EMTs, and Paramedics of the State of Delaware exclusive of those in private sector.

  • We offer a variety of P&C insurance options to help meet the unique needs of ESOs, including:

Property—helps protect facilities, grounds, machinery, equipment, furniture and personal items at the station.

Auto—for damage to fire apparatus, ambulances, vehicles and privately-owned vehicles (POVs), as well as financial protections for liability risks connected to auto-related incidents.

Portable equipment—covers equipment like personal effects, drones, water crafts, trailers and more at the station, emergency scene or anywhere in between.

General Liability—helps to financially protect the organization, employees and volunteer members from general operational risks, including Professional Healthcare Liability and Good Samaritan Acts Coverage.

Management Liability—helps to financially protect the organization, employees and volunteer members from management-related risks beyond your general liability policy, including Employment-related Practices Coverage and coverage for wrongful acts allegations.

Excess Liability—expands limits to Automobile Liability, General Liability and Management Liability.

  • Accident & Sickness, also called A&S, provides benefits to emergency responders and their families to help lessen the financial impacts of potential accidents and sicknesses. This includes providing funds to the loved ones of fallen members and funds for members who are injured in the line of duty, including incidents of dismemberment or illness impairment.

If an emergency service organization is relying on Workers' Compensation alone—they may learn the hard way that there are gaps in Workers' Comp coverage that could have financially devasting results for injured members and their families. For example, pre-existing conditions and limits for heart conditions, junior members and auxiliary members are just a few scenarios that can leave Workers' Comp policies disappointing for emergency service organizations and their members.

  • Group Term provides life insurance benefits for fire service personnel, including volunteers, career members, retirees, auxiliary members, administration and board members. This includes 24-hour on and off-duty coverage—which is a crucial benefit for fire departments as, unfortunately, many firefighters suffer from heart attacks within hours of leaving an emergency scene.

  • We offer a Critical Illness product to help provide coverage for cancers and illnesses that are not addressed by traditional Accident & sickness and Workers' Compensation policies. This coverage includes financial benefits for members who suffer from heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and cancer—and includes coverage for all members of an emergency service organization.
